The gruesome incident of mob lynching in palghar is being communalized in social media. Many users claimed that mob of muslims killed two sadhus and their driver. In video it is seen that a saffron clad old man clutching the hand of policemen is being hounded by a mob. After few seconds mob attacked and police man detached himself from the old man. Mob got hold of him and keep beating mercilessly. The video is disturbing. Film director ashok pandit claimed in his many tweets that Muslims are responsible for this barbaric act.
In another tweet in reply to film director anurag kashap he claimed that a muslim name shoaib can be heard in the video.
On april 16, a mob in the presence of police men had beaten three men to death ingadhchichali village near palgarh district of Maharashtra. The names of deceased are maharaj kalvriksha giri (70), maharaj sushil giri (35), and their driver nileshtelgane (350. Sudarshan tv promoter, Suresh Chavhanke claimed that he heard the name shoaib in the video.
One more tweet claimed that it has been evident from video that someone is calling ‘’मार शोएब मार.’’
Did anyone calling ‘Shoaib’ in video ?
There are more than one video being circulated in social media. We have analysed all of them. we could not independently ascertain the claim made by social media users. We have talked to the police officers of palghar regarding the name. They refuted the claim. The pro of SP Palghar told that there is no communal angle in the incident. He said that police has arrested 110 persons including 9 juveniles. No one is muslim among them. All are tribals. The officer said that two police inspector has been suspended for dereliction in duty. The official twitter handle of palghar police has also tweeted the same.
Anil deshmukh, home minister, Maharashtra has also tweeted that the accused and deceased are of same religion. He warned those giving the communal spin to the incident.
Udhav thakre, chief minister, Maharashtra had to come forward to issue the statement. He assured that the criminals will be taken to the task. And also denied any communal color in the incident
Rumour triggered the incident
According to police all the three deceased were on the way to Surat from Kandiwali, Mumbai by car in the night of April 16. They were going to attend the funeral ceremony in Surat. Near Palghar, villagers attacked them and got them out of car. They were beaten to death. Local policemen were reached their but crowd also attacked them. According to police a rumour being spread in the area that some migrants were loitering to rob the villagers led to the incident. Couple of days back the villagers also attacked a doctor and policemen in same fashion but they escaped somehow
